If you are planning to trek The Himalayas for the first time, this trek provides a great experience. This
trek offers you some great views of the Himalayas along with the opportunity to
visit the beautiful Lamayuru Monastery. The best month to visit Ripchar valley trek-Leh is from July to
August, as during those months you can find the whole valley covered with a
carpet of flowers. Visiting during these months will make you fall in love with nature and you wouldn't want to return home. We will also be crossing some
passes which will give you some amazing views of the Karakoram and Zanskar
ranges.
During our trek we will find the pastures, irrigated lands and crop fields are very well maintained, we will also be visiting these lands so as to know how the farmers maintain their farms and vegetation in such harsh conditions. This trip might require some extra effort but at the end of the day, this trip is sure to provide you peace and contentment. You can go on a trip for any number of days but to enjoy this place to the fullest you need at least 7-8 days.
Day 1: Flight from Delhi to Leh
We will take our flight from Delhi preferably in the morning itself and reach Leh by afternoon. On reaching Leh, which is at a height of 11,150 ft you will be transferred to a hotel where you can rest and acclimatize. It is very necessary to acclimatize to such heights to prevent acute mountain sickness and other health problems.
Day 2: Leh
On day 2, after having our breakfast we will be visiting the two famous monasteries in Leh, that is Thicksey and Shey monasteries. After our visit, we will return to our hotel, have lunch, and then we will explore the Leh market in the evening along with other places to visit. After having our dinner we will return to our hotel and rest for the day.
Day 3: From Leh to Hinju
Today we will be driving from Leh to Hinju, which is a 5-6 hours drive and visit the famous Alchi monastery. Hinju is a village, at a height of 12,303 ft having an eleventh-century gompa on a high cliff. We will be walking for an hour alongside the Ripchar valley to reach the campsite near Hinju. We will settle down for the night at Hinju and retire to our tents.
Day 4: Trek from Hinju to Sumdo Chenmo
It is said that the higher up we go along the Ripchar valley the views get more beautiful, the forests get thicker, and a wider variety of flora and fauna starts to emerge. From camp, the climb will be short but very steep towards the top of the pass. On reaching you will forget all the pains and would just feel relaxed while you will be enjoying the view of Prinkiti La. After we’ve captured the nature in our cameras we will descend to Sumdo Chenmo. We will be camping there for the night.
Day 5 : Trek from Sumdo Chenmo To Lanak
Today we will descent to Lanak. Initially, the descent will be steep but as the height reduces we will find the descend to become more gentle towards Lanak. We will be camping near a lake called Sumda Chu for the night.
Day 6: Trek from Lanak to Chilling
The Sumda village is largely self-sufficient even though it seems to be pretty isolated and shows hardly any sign of changes (from a development point of view). Dungduchun La is a small pass that has its path crossing from this village. The view from the top of this pass is ideal for clicking some jaw-dropping pictures. For our descend, we will follow the path that leads us to Chilling. We will be reaching Chilling late in the evening, therefore we will stay there for the night before continuing with our descend.
Day 7: Chilling to Leh
Chilling is famous for producing metal works that are unique and beautiful. After having our breakfast we will depart for Leh. It will be a short drive to Leh for about 2 hours. On reaching Leh we will check into our hotels and have our lunch after which we can stroll around and explore more of Leh. We will be staying overnight in our hotels.
Day 8: Flight from Leh to Delhi/ Home
After our breakfast, we will fly out to our homeland, taking with us sweet memories and lots and lots of new experience. Trekking tour in Ladakh can be one of the most beautiful trips that you might cherish throughout your life, they do include some difficulties and challenges but at the end of the day, after you reach home and remember these moments you will definitely want to come back again.
