Overview

When the month of December swirls its magic wand and unravels the tempted cold breezes, to feel a sudden irresistible wanderlust is quite understandable. Winters and adventures surely have some mysterious bond, after all both things gel almost perfectly. So if the idea of the approaching winters has begun to stir up emotions in you and if you can hear your heartbeat like a beatbox then it is time for you to match up your energy, grab your essentials and tick off a new trip from your bucket list. Skiing is usually every adventure enthusiast'ss topmost priority during winter excursions simply because of the extra kick that it brings with it. The very idea of skiing in the lap of huge and mighty mountains smothered with hefty and fresh snowfall is exceptionally refreshing and drool-worthy. Gulmarg in Kashmir has witnessed all sorts of madness and spine chilling experiences that tourists only bottle up inside them otherwise. Every winter it welcomes aboard people with young souls to behold and admire its beauty, to liberate their worldly worries, and to set themselves free amidst its fascinating wilderness. Gulmarg remains the most anticipated and chosen tourist spot for skiing not just in India but even across the globe. Besides the fact that it lies in the most beautiful and heavenly state of India keeping aside the political tensions, the Himalayan terrain and the panoramic view of the Pir Panjal Range are also two reasons that visitors equally look forward to on their trip to this scenic destination. Even though the natural flora is almost densely covered with snow during winters, Gulmarg continues to pave way for wildflowers that enrich the cup-shaped valley with mesmerizing views.

The first-hand experience of a bird's eye view of the breathtaking might of the surrounding mountain ranges smeared with thick coats of snow and the different shades of blues and greens of the valley certainly stir up emotions, the vehemence of which words can hardly contain. It is only through experience that one can contemplate and understand the variety of feelings that the valley introduces to you. So there are two phases that you need to take to reach Apharwat Mountain which is the major attraction for skiers. Phase one begins from the Gulmarg Ski Resort which is at an elevation of 10,076 ft where the Gulmarg Gondola starts by carrying around 1500 people and steadily ferrying them with an approximately 1,348 ft vertical rise to the Kongdoori station which on the other hand is at an elevation of 10,447 ft. There are many skiing slopes available at the Kongdoori station which are usually suggested for and preferred by beginners since the slopes are less steep, much gentler, and make skiing easier for amateurs. However, the tracks are very limited since skiers usually look forward to skiing at the Apharwat peak. The second phase begins at the Kongdoori station where the cable car with a vertical rise of about 4,482 ft ferries around 600 people all the way up to the Apharwat peak which ascends to an elevation of 13,311 ft. Gulmarg during winters is a bit populated and so the ropeway in the second phase has 36 cabins and 18 towers to match and cater to the needs of the crowd during winters and rightly does so with ease and responsibility. Besides the cable car, a chair-lift system is also available from Kangdoori station to Marry Shoulder which again is a destination preferred by beginners as well as intermediate skiers and whose geography brings with it its own cup of adventures and surprises. Anyhow, the Apharwat peak, the ultimate destination of the Gondola is nothing less than a utopian world to skiers specifically during winters since snow is found to be densely stretched across the complete mountain region, smearing beautiful shades of blue across the entire area and as far as the eye is capable of viewing, it witnesses infinity at its best. Located at a latitude of 34 degrees North, Gulmarg receives a very interesting and fairly distinct type of snowfall. The high altitude influences both the quality and quantity of snow very evidently. Gulmarg approximately attracts as much as 47 ft of snowfall on average but the quantity does vary from year to year. The quality of snow on the other hand is inclined towards the dryer side due to the higher altitudes and lower degrees of temperature but subsequently, it does retain moisture due to the flourishing Indus River and thus quickly converts to fresh powder which is ideal for skiing. Snowfalls in this region leave behind even the Alps of Europe which in themselves are known for huge quantities of snowfalls, Gulmarg beats them down by receiving snowfalls almost double their quantity.

Trekmunk, alongside the Gulmarg Skiing package, brings to you skiing experiences in different places across the valley of Kashmir. We have a team of enthusiastic and talented organizers, experienced and certified advance skiing instructors, and a whole bunch of other crazy travel enthusiasts like you who choose to rely on us for making their expedition a memorable one. With us, you can be assured of top notch assistance through the greens, blues, and all colors of the beautiful valley of Kashmir and experience skiing like never before.

You will also be confident of skiing on the advanced slopes but we will keep that on hold for the day. I had the most wonderful experience trekking through the ranges of Chandrashila with Trekmunk. The small moments of achievement were phenomenal. Chandrashila is the most astonishing peak that I've ever trekked through; I've never been so fascinated. I think I am going to go for another trek with Trekmunk soon enough! The kind of hospitality that is provided to us is worth appreciating. I made many new friends and have enjoyed each and every day of this trek to its fullest.

Traveling with these people is surely an insanely enthralling experience. This is my second backpacking trip with these people and the way I had imagined backpacking to be has been fulfilled by them and they have given me surely more. The best thing about travelling with these people is that you understand the true meaning of travelling and experience it very closely. You are given great freedom but at the same time taking care of. You participate in the process of backpacking. You have a trip leader with you but he acts more like a friend as the days pass by! We attended the hornbill festival and did a wonderful trek to Dzukuo valley in Nagaland with the leadership of this group. You break the boundaries of yourself when you travel like a true traveller and that is possible with these people.
