Solo trip to Nag tibba, Uttarakhand

Published On 15 Mar 2021 by Mohit Goswami

A quick weekend escape into the woods is as much practical as ideal with the Nag Tibba trek in picture. But the catch here is that it can be done solo and thoroughly enjoyed. Sometimes, solitude can be a distant dream but with weekend getaways, you always have a chance to grab sometime for yourself. Nag Tibba is one of the easiest and perfect treks for anyone who may be looking for a break from their monotonous schedule. Easily accessible, quick and extremely beautiful; the Nag Tibba trek package makes for a trip just about ideal for literally any and every solo traveler. Stretched across 16 km, the trail from the Panthwari village to the Nag Tibba top requires you to gradually ascend and elevate to an altitude of 9,915 ft to enjoy the panoramic views of the mighty mountains at a distance wherein the peaks of Kalanag, Gangotri, Doon Valley and even Kedarnath become visible and easily distinguish-able leaving you flooded with emotions. Trekkers usually find this place seemingly quite, less crowded, very pleasant and undoubtedly apt for a weekend break since it is the highest peak in Uttarakhand and offers the perfect amount of adventure. If you intend to drive from Delhi to Dehradun to reach Panthwari, the base camp of the trek, you can expect to cover the stretch between the two cities in approximately 5-6 hours via Saharanpur road. A steady and overnight drive can easily serve the purpose of reaching Dehradun early in the morning. Alternatively, you can board a bus from Delhi since many private and public buses travel between Delhi and Dehradun quite frequently. On the other hand, you can also board a train from Delhi to Dehradun which is also the cheapest means of transport that you can come across. Flights are also available that reduce the travelling time to as low as 1 hr/50 minutes, however flights are obviously the costliest means of transport to the destination.

After reaching Dehradun, you can either drive or take a shared cab to the village of Panthwari to begin your most awaited solo trip. You can freshen up at Panthwari, grab some packed lunch and embark on your trek to the base camp. The trail gradually elevates as you trek higher and opens into beautiful and overwhelming landscapes. Some parts of the trail are cemented and well carved, other parts that traverse through forests are well defined due to the occasional trekking over them. The stretch between Panthwari village and the base camp is 4.5 km long and is usually covered in approximately 5-6 hrs by any averagely fit person. Upn reaching the base camp, rlax and grab some sleep for the night. Next morning, Look out for the enchanting and mesmerizing sunrise from the base camp; the sunrises at Nag Tibba are exceptionally captivating and more than often leave trekkers overwhelmed and spellbound with their beauty. Soak in the freshness of nature and buckle up to make your way towards the Nag Tibba summit. The remaining trail to the summit is 3km long with gradual and evened out ascends and a steep climb towards the end that will take you to a height of 9,915 ft. At the summit, you will also find the temple named after the Serpent God, after which the mountain Nag Tibba is named as well. You can reach the summit in not more than 1-2 hrs if you maintain a steady pace. After whiling away your time at the top and enjoying the views of Kala Nag, Gangotri and other Himalayan Ranges, you can begin your descend towards the village of Panthwari. The descend is easy and equally rich in offering panoramic views of the Tehri  Garhwal region. The stretch from the summit to the Panthwari village is 8km long and is swiftly covered in 3hrs approximately after which you can pack up and bid adieu to the region.  The Nag Tibba trek remains accessible for most part of the year. However, it is best enjoyed during the two main seasons of summer and winter. Depending upon your taste and choice of weather and temperature, you can either choose to trek here between the months of April and June or the months of October and February.
