Is it possible to do Rupin Pass trek in December? If yes, what are the challenges?

Published On 01 Mar 2020 by Oshank Soni

Rupin Pass Trek is a high altitude trek beginning at Dhaula and finishing at Sangla in Uttarakhand. Mostly in Himachal, you will go trekking as there are 80% of the route. Rupin Pass is one of the largest hikes of trekking in India, with a height of about 15,250 feet above the sea level. Not only because of the trekking attraction, the wide variety of sceneries and the unexpected variance in routes, but the high altitude also draws other lovers of nature.

The Rupin pass has two seasons.
1. Pre-monsoon: from June until the middle of July. This period there is much snow in the tunnel. The snowline stops in the Upper Waterfall Village.
2. Post ? Monsoon: from mid-September to Oct. The snow melted this time and mostly there was no snow on the pass. But the greenery and flowers on the road are beautiful.

The temperature in the Himalayas in December is unpredictable. Even if the weather is constantly changing, nobody can guarantee that there is snowfall, rain or sun. Plus the snowy region covers the path in such a way that it becomes impossible to trek there in minus degree temperature and roads full of snow. This comes out to be the biggest challenge for this trek in December.
